Praat Program

A version of the “smoothed cepstral peak prominence” (ie, CPPS) has recently been implemented in the program Praat. The present study therefore estimated the correspondence between the original CPPS from the program SpeechTool and Praat 's version of the CPPS. Praat is a freely available program written by Paul Boersma and David Weenink. It is primarily intended for acoustic analysis of speech, but it has some additional functions such as speech synthesis and some constraint-based grammar learners. It can even run some basic perceptual experiments.

Praat (/prɑːt/; Dutch: [praːt](listen), 'talk') is a freecomputer software package for speech analysis in phonetics.[4] It was designed, and continues to be developed, by Paul Boersma and David Weenink of the University of Amsterdam. It can run on a wide range of operating systems, including various versions of Unix, Linux, Mac and Microsoft Windows (2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10). The program supports speech synthesis, including articulatory synthesis.

Download the Praat installer and install the program on English laboratory computer hard disk. A file named Praat appeared on disk and with double click on it to start Praat and then the students do steps of analyzing pitch. The procedure of analyzing is given to the students to guideusing Praat, we need to know what acoustic correlates of.

Program

Praat is a piece of software that helps phoneticians analyze, synthesize, and manipulate speech.

Praat enables you to create a source signal from scratch or from an existing speech signal, but also to create a filter or to extract it from an existing source. You can manipulate (change, adapt) both the source and the filter before doing the actual synthesis, which combines the two.

Features and highlights

Praat Programma M

  • Speech analysis: spectral analysis (spectrograms), pitch analysis, formant analysis, intensity analysis, jitter, shimmer, voice breaks
  • Cochleagram
  • Excitation pattern
  • Speech synthesis: from pitch, formant, and intensity, articulatory synthesis
  • Listening experiments: identification and discrimination tests
  • Labelling and segmentation: label intervals and time points on multiple tiers
  • Change pitch and duration contours
  • Filtering
