F11 Chrome Mac

Control features on your Mac

My google chrome screen continually goes into full screen mode.pressing F11 will take me back but it keeps going into full screen, Is there a way to stop this very annoying situation. It just started within the past few weeks. I've been trying to press F11 on Macbook Air but it doesn't work. Is there another way or keyboard shortcut to access full screen? P.S I'm not sure which category this question is in. Chrome debugger on the mac, they use the same keyboard shortcut as us and have the same behavior Xamarin is not using F keys for shorcuts The F11 show desktop behavior can easily be disabled on the mac. A user can also easily change the step in shorcut that we have. Chrome will then get into full screen. Once your want to exit the full screen mode, simply press F11 again. Note: If F11 fails to work on your Windows laptop, press Fn + F11 keys together instead. If you’re using Mac system, with the tab you want to show as full screen open, press Ctrl + Command + F keys together. And also, press the same.

By default, the top row of keys on your Apple keyboard control many different features on your Mac. For example, pressing the keys with speaker icons adjusts the volume.

Use standard function keys

Standard function keys work differently depending on the app and the keyboard shortcuts that you've set up. Some apps have their own keyboard shortcut preferences that you can customize.

Firefox Mac

To use the standard function keys, hold the Function (Fn)/Globe key when pressing a function key. For example, pressing both Fn and F12 (speaker icon) performs the action assigned to the F12 key instead of raising the volume of your speakers.

If your keyboard doesn’t have an Fn key, try pressing and holding the Control key when pressing a function key.

Change the default function key behavior

If you want to change the top row of keys to work as standard function keys without holding the Fn key, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences.
  2. Click Keyboard.
  3. Select 'Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys'.
F11

If you don't see 'Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys'

If you don't see 'Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys', you might be using a keyboard not made by Apple. These keyboards might need a utility to change the keyboard functions. Check with your keyboard manufacturer for more information.

As a tech blogger you can often find me working with a full screen browser window. It’s either because it gives me a more complete view, or because I need to take better screenshots. But I also have more than a handful of tabs open, and quite often need to jump between URLs.

For a more day-to-day use let’s take the example of the Chrome browser and the task of reading in full-screen mode. You can go full-screen with a press on F11. Now, there are two ways you can toggle between Chrome tabs in full-screen mode.

Use Keyboard Shortcuts

In Chrome, you can cycle between the open tabs by pressing Ctrl+Tab to access tab next to the currently opened one. Also, you can click Ctrl+Shift+Tab to go to the the previous tab. Alternatively, you can press Ctrl+1 to access the first tab, Ctrl+2 to access the second tab and so on.

Use a Chrome Extension

Keyboard ninjas will definitely go for the above default solution, but if you are more of a mouse guy then you have to fall back on a Chrome extension. SwiftClick is a simple Chrome extension that helps you toggle between tabs in full-screen using your mouse’s middle button (or scroll wheel). SwiftClick is a new way to switch between open Chrome tabs.

SwiftClick works either way – both in the normal mode as well as the full-screen mode. You simply have to click the middle mouse wheel (or button) and a preview page opens up with the thumbnails of all your open tabs. Simply select the tab you want to go to. Also, as you can see in the screenshot, SwiftClick allows you to open a fresh URL by displaying an address bar when you hover your mouse near the top of the preview window.

The only glitch perhaps is that sometimes thumbnails don’t render properly. But URLs are mentioned below the thumbs, so it’s not too much of a problem.

Which solution to toggle open tabs do you prefer for your Chrome browsing sessions? Try out the Chrome extension and let us know if it works just as well for you.
